I’m a home-schooling mom of two boys and I rely on the DeKalb Public
Library for my curriculum needs. Thanks to the library’s resources I
am able to provide a literature-rich home school environment; in the
past four years we’ve been able to read over seventy books per year in
our history lessons. Without the biographies, fiction, historical fiction
and non-fiction I would have to purchase a textbook-based curriculum
that doesn’t allow for the same immersion into the past as the “real”
books can. Without the DeKalb Public Library, my sons would not have
the love of reading, love of learning, and the comprehensive understanding
of so many diverse topics that they do today.

Growing up, the DeKalb Public Library was my favorite place to go on
a Saturday. My dad would take me every other week, and he'd go to the
magazine room and I would disappear into the children's area and find
him when I had chosen an armful of books. I live in Iowa now, and I'm
a librarian, no doubt in part because of all the wonderful experiences
I had at DeKalb Public Library. Now, when I visit DeKalb, my daughter
always wants to stop and spend time there!
